Good price with some inconvinent January 9, 2009 I bought the laptop a month ago. It is good, but there are also some obvious problems:
1. Bad battery life. Even use a tuned power management profile, the battery burns out in 2 hours. 2. Wireless 802.11a band conflicts with audio. You must disable 802.11a to get smooth audio. 3. The CPU does not support VT, so you are not able to run 64-bit Virtual Machines with good performance. I purchased the laptop because the memory is large enough to run many VMs. But lack of VT makes me very inconvenient. 4. The touchpad is too sensitive. It is very easy to trigger a click when you type on the keyboard. To avoid the false clicks, I have to close the touchpad and use external mouse. 5. USB slots are not enough. Two USB slots are far not enough to connect external mouse, PDA, iPod and other USB electronic devices at the same time. 6. Unable to turn off the light of HP logo on the back to save power.
Generally speaking, the laptop is good for desktop use but not suitable for movement.
Purchased for Wife January 8, 2009 For the features this was a good buy for the money. This was purchased for my wife for Christmas. Overall it has performed well. The only thing I have noticed is the battery life is about 3 hours max. In summary 250G HD, 4G RAM, Core 2 DUO 2Ghz, Webcamera, 802.11 with N, and many ports for $700.
Big function, small price January 8, 2009 I bought this to replace an aging ultralight Toshiba with an 11" screen. It's everything I looked for. Still pretty light, decent battery life, all the features I need. My only complaint is that the two USB outlets are too close together. That can make it a problem with some plugs.
Very nice for the money January 7, 2009 This laptop runs smoothly, fast, and is a great looking machine for the money. I usually have it plugged in, so I am no expert on battery life.
Great product, great deal January 6, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The notebook arrived in great condition and on time. I was impressed by the looks which are, to be modest, awesome. I have been using it for over a month and have never felt anything missing. I have bought several computers and notebooks in the past, and I highly recommend this one.
Pros: -- Amazing looks. Touch controls and buttons are great, and the body shine doesn't wear off. There is a mac-style glowing HP logo on the lid which took it away for me. Right in the face of my apple-obsessed roommate. -- Fast. CPU performance leaves nothing more to be desired. 4 GB of RAM should be sufficient for any purpose. -- Windows Vista pre-installed offers very few hassles. -- Comes with a media remote that is very useful during multimedia sessions (i.e. movies). Tip: Uninstall HP Quickplay to use the remote easily with normal applications. -- Very small and light; handy for most applications. -- Lots of ports for most things under the sun. Even one for SATA! -- Great performing Altec Lansing speakers. -- Did I mention the great looks?
Cons: -- Audio is choppy at times, especially when something demanding is going on in the background. Songs may skip a beat when someone on my google talk friend list pings me. -- Lots of bloatware as usual. I uninstalled the trial version of the anti-virus right away. -- The touch-pad and the click buttons are not very responsive (though they look beautiful). It's hard to do without a USB mouse at times. -- The two USB ports are kinda close together. My ipod shuffle doesn't let anything else fit in the next port. -- Since there's no high-end GPU, don't expect to play any games with it. -- The computer has died (hung) at least thrice for me in one month's usage, but I think I'll attribute that to Windows :-)
That's about it. Great machine, if you're thinking about something for home or work, think no more. Wouldn't recommend it for gaming.
