Great if it's easier to mount the LCD to stand January 8, 2009 This is a great product, except it's very hard to mount the LCD into the stand. I have to put the stand on bed and use full body weight to push the LCD into the stand's mount. Was very afraid it will break the LCD. After that, it's pleasure to use.
Install Stand without oil :) January 8, 2009 So far the monitor is pretty nice and works fine. It did take me about 15 minutes to install the stand. But basically you just got to first put the stand together. Then you got to forcefully shove either the left side or right side in as far as possible. Then you have to forcefully wiggle the other side and keep wiggling both sides until it gets in. The arrow should be facing the front of the monitor.
Great monitor but ... January 6, 2009 Yes, the picture quality of the monitor is great and that's what really counts but the stuff on the CD is less than worthless. It was sucking all my cpu cycles up. Everything was running much slower than usual after I installed the two programs on the CD. I forget their names because I have since uninstalled them and have thrown the CD away. Problem solved. They were taking 80% of CPU time.
Also the stand is a huge problem. I have mine just leaning against the wall but now after reading Mike Johnson's tip about the olive oil, I'll give it another try. I thought I was missing some instruction. Kept looking through the box for help on installing the stand. Holding the monitor upside down while exerting a downward force is a recipe for disaster. How stupid!
Monitor quality 5.0. Problems caused: 1.0 Final evaluation: 4.0
Samsung has got to be kidding. Stand Renders Monitor USELESS January 2, 2009 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I can't believe Samsung would offer this to the public. I've been trying to put the stand together now for almost 2 hours. I've used a liberal supply of Olive Oil on the rubber seal and the football shaped socket. All I've received for my work is red sore hands and a sore throat from grunting. I'm 6' 1" and 250 LB and 57 years old and still very physically active. I've used my entire weight to try to insert the swivel to no avail. I'm going to continue to try but have no confidence it will go together. The instructions offer no hints or directions as to how to insert the stand socket. This is PURE JUNK. If I could give a rating of -10 I would. Believe me this is a very difficult task that Samsung needs to rethink. OK, I've finally got it assembled. Here's where Samsung goes wrong. Holding the football shaped swivel joint in your hand you can clearly see that the two sides are different. SAMSUNG at no time tells you how to properly align the joint with the socket. They clearly mark the joint with a white triangle on one side but they don't direct you to keep to the front or back. I had sat the joint on the table and ascertained that it should be assembled to the rear. Well that's not right. Please refer to the pictures that M. Johnson posted and pay particular attention to the fifth picture, it shows the proper alignment. Once I tried to assemble it in the correct position it wasn't that difficult. I hate to give such a low rating on such a good monitor simply because of SAMSUNG'S stupidity, but they need to learn how to lay out their directions. I could have very easily damaged this monitor because of their stupidity. I was applying my maximum force on something in the wrong position because they never pointed me in the proper direction. Believe me I'm not a small guy or weak. I had the frame bent at one time that made me think i had broken it. So the final analysis is that while the monitor is good the stand is a disgrace to Samsung. Shame on Samsung for their gross stupidity.
Don't let the Stand Install issues sway your decision! December 31, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I wanted to address the big negative issue that seems to bear its head in virtually all reviews for this LCD Monitor. I'll leave the technical and graphical performance to other reviews. (But I am very happy with it!)
I added several photos to the collection for this monitor to show some things I will describe. (You should be able to see them above)
To begin, the shipment box is not nearly as large as I expected, and comes within no other (unmarked) box! If this is a gift, send it somewhere where the gift recipient will not see the package. (Photo)
Besides the Monitor and Stand parts, the package contains a Quick Step Guide, Warranty Card, CD-R Software (User's Guide / Drivers), A Power Cord, DVI Cord, VGA Cord, Cable Holding Ring, and Cleaning Cloth. (Photo)
After unpacking, the assembly of the base stand to the monitor is where things begin to give many people problems. It is unfortunate that I hesitated to buy this monitor simply because of the negative comments regarding this evidently painstaking process. Obviously I got over the fear, and took the plunge.
Jumping to conclusions, the assembly is not really as difficult as I was expecting! I was honestly ready for a battle with this monitor! Prepared with Extra Virgin Olive Oil to lube the "socket", and some workout attire I went one-on-one, and won the battle with ease! (5 Seconds at Most!)
The combination of placing the monitor screen upside down on a solid and firm, but non-abrasive surface (carpet), and a very tiny dab of olive oil rubbed along the rubberized socket of the monitor, the football shaped ball socket joint of the base snapped in relatively easy! (See Photos)
Note that the actual base itself even comes in 2 parts... On the contrary to what the Quick Setup Guide shows, assemble those two pieces together AFTER you have snapped the socket portion into the monitor! MUCH EASIER!!!
Now that I know the quality is good, and realize how easy this is to assemble, armed with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, I will be buying 2 more very soon to complete my 3-monitor array for one of my computer systems!
